The neighbourhood: Ubud
The feel
Inland, green and noticeably cooler at night. Rice fields, art galleries, yoga and wellness. Central Ubud is walkable but the pavements are uneven; everything beyond it needs a scooter or a driver.
Getting around
Grab and Gojek work but drivers are blocked from some streets around the market — walk a block out before ordering. Private drivers charge around IDR 600–800k a day.
Eating and drinking
Warungs around Jl. Goutama and Penestanan, healthy cafés on Jl. Raya Sanggingan, and night-time options thin out early — most kitchens close by 22:00.
Worth knowing
No beach. Traffic through the centre is slow from 10:00 to 18:00. ATMs cluster around Jl. Raya Ubud and the market.
