Plane to hotel, step by step

Exactly what happens from the moment the seatbelt sign goes off until you are in a car heading to your accommodation. Allow 60–90 minutes for the whole thing.

1. 01

   Disembark and follow the signs

   5–10 min

   You leave the plane onto a jet bridge or a bus. Everyone walks the same way — follow the overhead signs marked "Arrival / Kedatangan". There is a long open-air walkway before immigration; toilets and free Wi-Fi are along it. Have your phone charged: you will need to show QR codes.

   • Keep your passport in your hand, not your bag

   • No photos allowed in the immigration hall

   Fill in the two QR codes (before you land, ideally)

   10 min

   Indonesia runs two digital forms. Both give you a QR code you scan yourself at a gate. Do them on the plane or in the walkway — the queue for people doing it on the spot is the slowest one in the airport.

   • All Indonesia app / allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id — customs declaration (one per family, valid 3 days before arrival)
   • Screenshot both QR codes so you do not need signal
   • e-VOA at evisa.imigrasi.go.id if you want to skip the visa payment queue

   Immigration

   15–90 min

   If you already paid for an e-VOA, go straight to the autogates or the e-VOA lane. If not, pay the IDR 500,000 visa on arrival at the payment counters BEFORE joining the immigration queue — card or cash, both accepted. Then join the foreign passport line.

   • e-VOA holders: scan passport at the autogate, look at the camera, walk through
   • VOA on the spot: pay first, then queue
   • Peak arrival waves are 15:00–21:00 — expect the longest lines then
4. 04

   Baggage claim

   10–30 min

   Screens list flight numbers and belt numbers. Free trolleys sit at the end of each belt — grab one before you look for your bag. If your bag does not appear, the Lost & Found desk is at the side of the hall; report it before leaving customs.

   • Trolleys are free — no coin needed
   • Check the bag tag matches yours before wheeling off
   • Damaged or missing bag? Report it here, not later
5. 05

   Customs

   5 min

   Scan your customs QR code at the gate, put larger bags through the X-ray if directed, and you are out. Officers may ask about alcohol, tobacco, or drones. Duty-free limits are 1 litre of alcohol and 200 cigarettes per adult.

   • Have the customs QR ready on screen, not buried in email
   • Declare cash over IDR 100 million equivalent
   • Vapes are allowed; e-liquid over the limit can be taken
6. 06

   The arrivals hall — and getting out

   10 min

   The doors open into a busy hall full of drivers holding name signs and people offering taxis. Walk straight through it. Official transport, ATMs, and SIM booths are all past the crowd; anyone approaching you inside the hall is almost always a markup.

   • Ignore "taxi, taxi?" offers — keep walking
   • ATMs and SIM booths are on your right as you exit
   • Grab / Gojek pickup is a signposted walk outside the terminal

Luggage, trolleys, and porters

Getting to your hotel

Typical journey times and fares from the airport. Traffic is the biggest variable — the same trip can take twice as long between 16:00 and 19:00.

Grab and Gojek cars cannot pick up at the curb. Follow the signs to the designated ride-hailing pickup point — it is a 5–8 minute walk from arrivals, on the upper departures level or the car park, depending on the day. Confirm the pickup spot in the app before you order.
